How Salvage Yard Vehicles Are Categorized

If you’re looking to buy or sell a car to a junk yard in Florida or any other state, we know that you will want to make sure you get the best deal possible. To do that, you will want to get an idea of what category the car falls into. These categories are based on the damage that the vehicle has sustained and the quantity and quality of parts still available for resale.

Category A and B vehicles are damaged beyond repair. Category A vehicles are essentially piles of scrap and are therefore extremely unprofitable, while Category B vehicles still have a few used car parts that can be repaired or resold. While it may sometimes be hard to find the part needed from a Category B vehicle, the parts are generally very cheap and worth the hunt.

Cars that are barely drivable but require extensive repair are Category C cars. These are expensive and difficult to restore, especially for amateurs. Category D cars are those that are drivable and require less repair. These are the kind of cars that most people will buy, restore, and resell for profit. This can be a great hobby that really pays off over time, and as you are looking for parts, keep in mind that you can always go back to the salvage yard for more; not only is it cheaper than buying new parts, but it’s also more environmentally friendly.

The rarest kind of car to find at an auto salvage yard is a Category X car. This is a car with no apparent damage, so they cost more than any other type of car at the yard. Usually, these cars are repossessed vehicles purchased by the yard or cars that were stolen and never claimed. If you are looking to buy a car from a salvage yard and have no restoration experience, a Category X car will be your best bet.
